The Salt Mine (aka Wieliczka)

The view from the top of the stairs!!! It was a long way down...but at least it was climbing down the stairs the whole time

The view from about two thirds of the way down!!!

There were many statues of famous people who had visited the mine at some point in time. Made from salt of course!!!

The Chapel of St Kinga, made entirely out of salt!!!

The last supper - in 3D!!

The floors were made from salt stone and are keep so shiny by the shoes of the people who walk over the floor everyday!

The Pope!!

A cart used by the miners to push the salt around the mine

Horses were used down in the mines to work some of the equipment of transport salt in a more efficient manner

The stable for the horses!

The horses were used to turn the wheel and cause a rope with wood or bits and pieces attached to be lowered down a hole to the lower levels of the mine or brought up from the lower levels to that level.

When the wheel is turned in a certain direction, the barrel either goes up or down!

Old steps made out of the salt!

The troughon the side is where fresh water was pumped along!

The seven dwarfs!!!

This chandelier is made using salt crystals!

There used to be a ferry that passed across but it was shut down when some drunk Germans took the ferry and capsized it, with some of the drowning!

The tracks that were used by the machines to transport the salt

The old machines that were used in the mine to move the salt!

There was a large area which looked like it was used for functions!

The bar inside the salt mine!
