The Trip North to Norway

OK so now I've been to Norway I've seen it all!!! Well not really. But the trip lived up to the norm of all my trips where there always has to be something that happens to me!!! However before I begin about my trip north let me just fill you in on the two days before that so I'm not leaving any gaps...

So after returning from Stockholm last week I spent the Wednesday night at home and then Thursday once again packed my bag (I'm going to be a master at it by the time I get home) and left for one night at the summer house. When we got down there, there were people everywhere. Martina's aunts Anna and Karin were both there with their husbands and three sons between them. There were also two mates of Sten, Anna's son, as well as Pontus Martina, myself and two dogs. And then we had two visitors who spent most of the night there, their neighbours William and Maria. So it was all happening at the summer house. Anyway the night wasn't too eventful with all the younger ones (me included) battling it out on sing star then being taught a Swedish card game by Anna which took us well past midnight.

Exhausted and tired, Martina and I had to make our way back to the house up the top where we were to be sleeping as there was no room in the inn below. The next day was just spent not doing much, being entertained by Martina's younger cousin Anton mainly. Then Åsa arrived at about 5pm to pick up Pontus Martina and I so we could leave for NORWAY!!!!

We arrived home and I had to do another quick unpack then repack of my bag. We loaded up the car and after a few small hiccups, Lars panicking because he thought he'd locked Pontus in the house, with the alarm on, and then finding the car keys, which had been packed into a bag in the boot. So after all that we were off for the 2hrs 45mins drive to Norway. We arrived to blue skies and the last of the sun at a bay where Christian and his son Christian Magnus were waiting with their boats to take us to the island where the holiday house we'd be spending the next few days at was located. Pontus jumped in the boat with Christian Magnus and took off while we loaded all our stuff into this beautiful boat (it was awesome). However Christian knew how to make the boat move and despite they're head start, we managed to beat the boys by about 5 mins.

The house was absolutely amazing, (picture perfect really) and once we'd unloaded our stuff and said hi to Susan (Christian's wife) Martina, the two boys and I headed for their trampoline where we entertained ourselves for over an hour till dinner. For dinner, Kristina, their daughter, and her boyfriend, whose name I never did catch, joined us. not much happened that night as by the time we finished dinner it was after 12am so we all cleaned up then headed off for bed.

Saturday began with the sun shinning and so I was put in a kayak and went for a paddle around the bay where the house was. Then like nearly all other days I've had here in Sweden...it poured with rain all afternoon, so that put a dampener on things we could do. We entertained ourselves either by watching Star Wars movies, playing Harry Potter board games or reading. Very relaxful. I was taken out in Christian's boat when he took Kristina and her boyfriend to a bay where they were to catch a bus to the airport. I think they were off to Finland. On the way back Christian took me on a brief tour of the archipelago and down the fjord where the border between Sweden and Norway lies so that was fun.

Then Sunday we were blessed with sun and blue skies all day but not with out strong winds. So it was decided that I should be taken out of a tyre like thing being pulled behind the boat. I jumped in and Martina took the wheel of the boat and off we went. It was all going along fine until we were turning round to come back and the rope snapped. So Martina turned round to come and retreive me, which she did, and once I was in the boat and shivering cold Martina couldn't get the motor to start. Well she started to panic a little then. It wasn't until she realised that the rope was wrapped around the motor that she really began to panic as we had no way of controlling the boat. So she made me dive back into the water to untangle the rope. That went well however when I was coming back up the ladder into the boat my foot slipped and I took a chunk if skin out of my left shin (I do have photos of my leg bloodied and all!!!). Thankfully the water was cold so it wasn't too painful at the time. Anyway while all this was happening Christian had jumped into another of his boats (he has 4 and a kayak) and was coming out to get us. I just lay floating in the water for about 10mins while they finally managed to get the motor working and had tied the two boats together, then cold and shivering I was pulled out of the water and taken back to the house.

My leg was cleaned and covered and by that time it was clear I was going to have a nice lump on my leg. It's still very sore and quite bruised and I'm still finding more bruises on my arms and legs from it!! Anyway we had lunch and it was decided that we would abandon the boats and just relax around the house. This meant more movies and reading!!! Anyway that night after dinner I was introduced to the game Kubb where each team has five wooden blocks and they're set up standing up in a row facing the other teams. There's quite a distance between the two lines. Then each team takes it in turns to throw 6 sticks at the other teams blocks. If they knock one down, then the team must throw their block (it must be over half way) and then they must knock it over before they can begin throwing their sticks at the other teams blocks. If that team can't knock down the block after all the sticks have been thrown, the other team can come forward as far as the block to make they're next throws. Then once the team has knocked over all the oppositions blocks they have to knock over the block that is in the middle of the two rows and then they win. So it was the adults onto the kids and even though the adults had had quite a bit to drink, they managed to win 2 - 0. We were pretty hopeless but it was still quite a bit of fun.

Monday the weather was perfect. Blue skies, sun and very little wind. So after breakfast we all headed down to the dock. Martina, Lars and I went out for a bit in one of the motor boats and Martina even let me drive it for a bit which was cool. Then we headed back in and I was to try the rubber tyre thing again. This time, I only fell off once and managed to survive without any injuries. And it was a lot of fun. The next attempt was to water ski. Unfortunately I only got a chance for three tries, none of which I was able to get up. The rest of the afternoon I spent lying in the sun working on my tan and playing with Christian Magnus and Pontus. Then at about 4.30pm we loaded up the boat and were taken back to the car so we could return home.

So now I'm back and I must say, I have got to get me a rich Swede or Norwegian so they can buy me a boat and a holiday house here because these guys have the life during their summers. It's awesome. So much to do and when the sun does come out, it really is beautiful here.

And now I'm on the countdown till I leave. Only two days left after today!!!! Tonight we're off to see Harry Potter and I've still got to go to their theme park Liseberg in the next few days. And then there's the last bit of shopping to do. So much to do and so little time. I will hopefully write one more blog before I leave Sweden and then one after Japan and then I'll be home and there's not much interesting to write about that.

I hope you are all well back at home and I'll be seeing you all in about a week or so.

Vi ses,

Alice
xoxo
